Army Instructor, SFC James D. Polve
I am Sergeant First Class (Retired) James D. Polve, a native of Texas, and currently assigned as the Army Instructor for Albuquerque High School. I retired in 2007 from the United States Army after 24 years of service. I recently served as the Army Instructor for Sussex Central High School in Georgetown, Delaware.
I graduated from Arp High School in 1983 and shipped off to Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training to become a Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) Specialist at Fort McClellan, Alabama and to Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. I was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division for 3 tours of duty and a total of 15 years. During that time, I was assigned to C Company 307th Medical Battalion, 307th Forward Support Battalion, 21st Chemical Company, HHC 1-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment, and Headquarters, 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. I completed 3 overseas tours (2 in Baumholder, Germany and 1 in Camp Howze, South Korea). I deployed to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Bosnia and trained in 17 other countries around the world. My last assignment was with 2-361st Training Support Battalion in Sioux Falls, SD, as an observer controller and trainer. During this assignment, I was attached to Fort Bliss, Fort Riley and Fort Carson to train and deploy Army Reserve and National Guard units from North Dakota, South Dakota, and Pennsylvania as part of global war on terrorism.
Over my 24 years of service, I was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6th award), Army Achievement Medal (16th award), Army Superior Unit Award (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with two bronze service stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armored Forces Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Service Ribbon (3rd award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), NATO medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), Expert Marksmanship Badge for Rifle, Pistol and Grenade, and Parachutes Badge. I attended numerous service schools which included graduation from US Army Chemical School, Airborne School, Area NBC Officer Defense Course, Basic NBC NCO Course (BNCOC), Advanced NBC NCO Course (ANCOC), Air Movement Officers Course, Hazardous Materials Handlers Course, Facility Managers Course, and Battle Staff Course at the Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss. I received certification as an Army Instructor through Cadet Command in 2007. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in General Studies with a GPA of 3.94 from Wilmington University in Delaware in 2011. I plan to continue my education in New Mexico to receive my Masters in Education.
I have been married to my wife, Joi, since April 2000.
